After another instance in Sarasota FL wherein a babysitter has been caught and jailed after committing an act of lasciviousness and lewdness against a child, many households particularly moms are reconsidering whether it is still safe to hire nannies to help them take care with their children. The account that was posted at an ABC7 website said Tuesday that a mother hired a babysitter through the internet in an online nanny hiring website. The mother saw the name Gregory Chiappelloni and proceeded to the final hiring procedure. According to a background check, Chiappelloni do not have any criminal history and that he is really a certified nursing assistant. The lascivious act done by Chiappelloni happened 2 years ago when he was hired to baby sit the three sons of the said mother. One of the sons, who was 3 years old then, testified about the acts of Chiappelloni and said that his two brothers where in the other room when it happened. Now the suspect is under the custody of police and the case is filed without bail. Chappelloni served the family 7 times in three months from May to September 2007.

This instance left questions whether hiring baby sitters would still be safe nowadays. Despite the widely famous background check system could it be possible that hiring nannies can still be safe and beneficial? Well, as for this issue, the main responsibility here resides on the one who hires a nanny. By using several procedures and doing some precautionary measures before hiring a helper, can help avoid instances similar to the above situation. What should one do in order to at least hire a better nanny? And what are the considerations that must be put into mind? Check on out some advises that was compiled from millions of moms' confessions over the net.

1. Clarify the Job Description. When looking for a nanny, make sure that the job description is clarified. Put in the hours of work and whether the nanny is also expected to do other job other than baby sitting or cooking. If you are in particularly looking for a cook, express it in the job description that the nanny is going to do just the posted task. This can result to a lower salary of the nanny. However, multiple tasks and the number of hours worked will mean higher pay.

2. Search. In searching, it is always advised that you begin with asking friends and neighbors. A word of mouth is sometimes a very effective tool in finding a nanny. Another thing with this is that, neighbors and friends would never, in many cases, recommend nannies that are bad or ineffective. Also, nannies know other nannies out there that need a job, so by asking them or their immediate employer, you are close at hiring a better one.

3. Check the background. Criminal history is sometimes not really a factor to consider especially if the conviction has been done a few years ago already or if the convict already served a time. But other histories involving sexual misconduct or if the person is a sex offender must ring a bell thus background services must be conducted.

4. Interview before closing the deal. In the interview, the employer will know more about the prospect nanny. According to many moms, by asking the nanny of his child rearing philosophies and perspective over the job will help build relationship and also create a harmonious partnership between the nanny and the employer. The interview may also consist of asking the nanny of his previous employer, SS number, birth date, and other pertinent information.
