Its very common for women to come to hate the dreaded period. Yes, hate is not too strong a word to use here. The period is messy, its painful and it takes a lot of time out of every woman's lifetime. From the time of being a teenager you are informed that this is life and there is nothing that can be done to change it. And no, its not just problematic for the younger lady. Often ladies in their late thirties, forties, even sometimes in their fifties suffer just as much and sometimes even more than they did when they were much younger from period pains and period complications. So what to do, just sit and patiently wait for menopause to occur? Or how about having a hysterectomy and having to wait to recover from that? In fact, most women are not aware of this but its a fact that these days its no longer necessary to have to suffer periods in silence. Its no longer necessary to suffer periods at all. There is a non-invasive surgical procedure called hysteroscopic endometrial ablation - I'll say that again... no, just joking. This surgery takes only a few days to make a full recovery from. Its also known as "roller ball surgery". The op involves a laser that is used to cauterize the endometrial layer within the uterus or the womb. The blood thus no longer builds up on the uterus and hence no more periods. No early menopause either. The op has actually been around for the past 15 years and so is known to be successful in the vast majority of cases. There is only really one concern which is if the surgeon is to miss cauterizing any part of the uterus then the procedure is not completed and will have to be done again. Its no real big deal though as there are no other complications. Ooops, there is another down side, actually. There is a drug called Lupron which must be prescribed by your doctor before undergoing surgery. It comes in the form of a single injection which then stays within the body for a month. Its fairly expensive - around $350 to $500. The drug puts the body into a sort of temporary menopausal situation so that the endometrial lining is thinner and is easier to laser which increases the chances of the surgery being successful. There are potential side effects of Lupron. Mood swings, hot flushes, sleeping troubles and some weight gain are not unusual, although not all together. Its not fun, but if you can last a month and then do the op then its all down hill from then onwards! Article Source: http://www.ArticleBlast.com |
