When you're thinking about organising your wedding there are sure to be a million and one things on your mind and it can be hard to work out exactly where your priorities lie. From flowers to dresses and meals to vows there are many facets to creating a dream wedding, but the best way to go about getting what you want is to make sure you approach the preparations for the big day in a methodical manner. You might not be a big fan of making lists, but without them remembering all the bits and pieces you need to for a big wedding will be tricky. So start a notebook and get planning.
A good way to kick off the process is by making a list of the things that are most important to you. For example, if the venue is the most important thing put it at the top and likewise if it's the dress that really gets your heart going. This way, when you start worrying about wedding favours or the DJ you can look back at the list and remind yourself where your priorities lie. Then you can refocus your energies and ensure it's the most important things that get the most attention from you, not necessarily the ones that are hardest for you to organise.
Another handy time saver when you're planning your wedding is a few trips to wedding fairs. These tend to be one day events that travel around the country and offer you the chance to have a look at wedding services and goods from favours to cakes all under one roof - a great place for you to be inspired and find stockists without having to trawl the phonebook for each individually.
Of course, many of the decisions you make regarding your wedding will be affected by your financial situation. Weddings can be expensive things, so make sure that you are sure of how much you can afford to spend at the outcome. Tools such as a budget calculator should be able to help you make sure that you have a clear idea how much of your income can be safely spent on your upcoming special day.
If organising your wedding turns out to be more stressful than you bargained for, you can always have a look and see if there's room for a wedding planner in your budget. If not, then at least remember that the most important thing about your wedding is marrying the person you love, not any of the accompaniments.
