Identifying Vaginal Dryness Symptoms And Possible Treatments

Vaginal dryness is a form of female sexual dysfunction that women have to confront at one time of their life time or the other. Although it is common, some women never experienced it at all. Researches conducted by various gynecological institutes worldwide reveal that an estimate of 30% of women stands the risk. The causes are many and the treatments take various forms.

Before delving into the factors that are likely to cause vaginal dryness, let's first lay out the symptoms. The female sexual organ is more sophisticated than the male organ and that is why female sexuality has its complexities.

In the lay man's language vaginal dryness as the name suggests is when the female vagina is not as moist as it normally is. The symptoms of this female dysfunction are lack of lubrication, itching, irritation, loss of arousal and sexual interest and considerable pain during sexual intercourse.

The causes are many but the most frequent is due to hormonal imbalance especially during the menopausal stages. When the level of Estrogen (a female hormone) decreases, the woman is open to all female sexual dysfunctions.

The role of Estrogen:

Estrogen helps keep your vaginal tissue healthy by maintaining a normal vaginal acidity level. Acidity creates a natural defense against vaginal and urinary tract (yeast) infections. But when your estrogen levels decrease, so does this natural defense and the amount of vaginal lubrication. Decreased estrogen amounts can lead to a thinner, less elastic and more fragile vaginal lining.

Although reduced Estrogen is not the only cause of vaginal dryness, others are closely tied to it. Such are poor hygiene, stress, alcohol, drug abuse and certain medications. This however may not be the end of the list.

Possible Treatments:

Is it necessary to state that when you think you are suffering from vaginal dryness to first consult your doctor? Well, this should be the first move. The doctor may take samples of cervical cells, vaginal secretions and/or urine for analysis to determine the possibilities of yeast infections and low Estrogen.

If you think that your alcohol or tobacco use is not within normal levels, stop them and occupy yourself with physical activities which in turn helps relieve your stress.

Vaginal rings were hits in years back but with the advancements of medicine, other treatments are available in form of herbal product for vaginal dryness which may be either in form of pills or creams. They help to increase the level of Estrogen and aid against bacterial infections as well as helping to boost up a woman's sex drive and libido.
