As the holiday season approaches and we are inundated with Christmas jewelry ads, I am seeing more and more campaigns aimed at ""power women"" with gorgeous and dazzling diamond settings designed (supposedly) for right-hand wear only. It seems that trends in fashion can travel at a million miles an hour. However one trend that will likely stay around for the foreseeable future is the right hand diamond ring. Women no longer feel the need to wait for a man to buy them a diamond ring, so they are going out and buying one for themselves. Normally we think of diamond rings being worn on the left hand so it's very refreshing to think that lots of women are choosing them for their right hand. Diamond rings of course are very much associated with engagement rings which are worn on the ring finger of the left hand. Now the right hand diamond ring has come to symbolize independence, success and freedom. Qualities women generally used to give up with marriage. Right hand rings aren't simply left hand rings worn on the right hand. They are designed differently, featuring smaller stones clustered together. It used to be that unmarried women were somehow considered inferior compared to married women. So the right-handed diamond ring may symbolize success and independence without the need for marriage. It used to be that becoming a wife meant sacrificing ones independence. Which is why women are eager to avoid becoming the submissive housewife by proving that they can treat themselves to a right hand diamond ring. Jewelers once simply marketed their diamond rings towards men buying for their brides-to-be. Now they've woken up to the independent woman and cater for her needs too. Interestingly, married women are also keen to show they haven't lost their self-worth by wearing right hand diamond rings too. Plus, of course, they simply look beautiful. Who wouldn't want a stunning diamond ring on their finger - married of otherwise. Other Interesting Facts About Diamonds - Of course another great reason to by a right-hand diamond ring is the fact that the diamond is the birthstone for the month of April and is said to enhance competence, trust and love. The ancient Greeks believed that diamonds were the splinters of stars fallen to Earth whilst others believed them to be the tears of God. In the middle ages people believed diamonds to have healing powers. However the patient had to take the diamond to bed so that it could warm up. For those of you who enjoy learning about legends, you will be interested to know that Cupid's arrow was said to have been tipped with diamonds.
