The lice problem has been troubling people for a long time. The lice infestation is generally known as pediculosis. Among the 3000 species of lice only three are responsible for causing trouble for humans. Let us here now discuss with the head lice, which in itself is a big problem greater than many other hair problems.

The head louse feeds on human blood and is responsible for causing severe itching sensation. The most common symptom of having lice problem is the sensation of severe sensation. Though it is true that the louse does not transmit any disease but the feeding activity may cause severe itching, which irritates the scalp and the itching may cause skin breakage, which in turn may cause other infections.

Now the question may arise that, who gets infested by the lice? Generally this problem is faced by people living in unhealthy and unsanitary conditions and cannot take bath or wash their clothes regularly. But it is also possible for other people to get infested by lice. It is believed that the life circle of a louse is about thirty days. Generally children between the age group of 3-10 get infested by lice problem. Girls get more lice infestation than the boys. The egg gets hatched within seven to ten days and then it takes about 18-20 days to get a nymph to develop into an adult. An adult louse further lives for about 30 days.

It is a fact that lice can not fly, jump or swim. Then how does a louse gets transmitted from one person to another? It is surely the result of sharing hat, comb, brush, towel and other such materials being used by a person having the problem.

How to get rid of this problem is a big problem? Before finding some remedies of this problem we must have a proper diagnosis of it. First of all entire scalp should be combed thoroughly with a loose comb and the teeth of the comb should be examined carefully each time it passes through the hair for the presence of any live louse. The areas behind the ears and the nape of the neck are the most common places where the lice lay their egg. Therefore, special attention should be given to those areas. If lice are found the rest of the family should also be checked.

Now follows the matter of treatment. Generally the treatment is done by using medicated shampoos or cream rinses. But it is also a fact that there are no products available that can assure 100% lice control. And it is also noticed that some lice have grown resistant to shampoos. It is therefore recommended to consult a dermatologist or a physician so that he can prescribe the perfect solution to the problem.

Besides having the treatment the other thing that should be kept in mind is the preventive measures and the after care of the treatment. This should be done because you can never be sure after you have done the treatment that the problem would never return. There remains always the possibility of falling prey to the problem again if proper watch is not kept on.
