Your time at school can have a large effect on the type of clothes you choose to put on even when you don't have to wear a set uniform. School years are some of the most formative of your life, but for the majority of people their priorities at school have much to do with blending in. This means that fashions and fads are prevalent in high schools and even those individuals who like to stand out find that their tastes are influenced greatly by those around them. From shortened ties and large lapels on school shirts to slouch socks or leg warmers, there are plenty of styles that run riot through the closed communities that school offers. This means that lots of people find that they don't have to look far for their fashion inspiration during this time and instead can take their cue from the insular society around them. This is fine when you're a young teenager and still searching for your own style, but it soon becomes restrictive as you get closer to school-leaving age. That's why there's something so liberating about the years following school. Fresh out of the gate and enjoying their new status as near adults, most school leavers are experiencing many things for the first time and a fresh perspective on their fashion sense is one of these. As soon as you are out in the big, bad world and away from the small groups of friends that characterise your education, a whole wealth of new inspiration is out for the taking - and many people grab onto it with both hands and begin experimenting. What's more, the time after school is when many people start earning for the first time, meaning they have more spare cash to try out new clothes and don't have to get their parents approval for their purchases any more. On the other hand, people who choose to go on to further education tend to find themselves mixing with a much wider range of people from many different nationalities and walks of life and this of course proves inspirational in the fashion sense. Student years tend to be some of the most outrageous when it comes to the way we dress as it's all about making a statement rather than fitting in by the time you get to this age. However, many people still find that their years are school were formative ones when it comes to fashion, even if they only serve to remind them what not to wear!
