Dressing it up: Dress Trends for 2010

What to buy if you are shopping for dresses in 2010? Party dresses are a big feature of the spring/summer season and there will be lots to be found on the rails, to be worn day and night. Folds and draping around the hip are added to give extra shape and this is a common feature you might notice on fashion forward dresses for 2010.

Jumpsuits have had a revival and there are even single shouldered or strapless versions if you dare to bare. The jumpsuit option may not be to everyone's taste but you might just be surprised by the variety of different styles available.

2009 heralded all sorts of micro-minis but 2010 focuses on flashing flesh in other ways as well. From Versace's knock-out gowns to Lanvin's romantic and elegant draping numbers, long dresses with a thigh high split are a staple for your spring/summer 2010 wardrobe.

A new wave of seductive skirts has found its way onto red carpets, into fashion magazine editorials and then the wardrobes of fashionistas. In 2010 the mid-thigh split dress is out and has been replaced with long dresses slashed to the top of thigh.

Maxi dresses with high thigh splits show off your whole leg as you walk along. Opt for light, flowing fabrics as movement and flow are a big part of the appeal. You can pair lighter dresses with a jacket for warm spring days or cooler summer evenings.

On the dresses that will soon be swamping the high street shops there may be a single side split, a centre split, or dual side splits with a panel of fabric that falls along the middle section.

The high street styles are based on the designs that graced the catwalks where some of the most knock-out examples of thigh-high dress splits were from Versace. Pucci featured breezy and free flowing dresses whereas Lanvin focused on draping Grecian styles, the very epitome of femininity made modern with high thigh splits.

If you are planning to follow the fashion focus of 2010 and invest in a thigh high dress then there are a few tips to follow.

First and foremost, heels are an absolute must when wearing a thigh split show stopper. Flat shoes don't do the look justice and because heels aren't as sky scraper high in 2010 so you can bring the heel height down an inch or two.

If you are sporting this look in summer then tanned, toned, bare legs are the perfect accompaniment. For colder days you could experiment with different styles of stockings.

Thigh split dresses are not designed to be a day-to-day street trend nor as day wear. Wear on occasions where you really want to look glamorous, turn heads and feel a million dollars.
