Clothing is really one important thing that distinguishes humans from animals. Our clothing provides us with modesty, warmth and safety from such things as sunburn and windburn. Many people of the modern world use clothing to make a statement about themselves or their ideals, while others like to try and shock people with rude slogans on their T-shirts. Our clothing is made to suit our environment, with those who live in icy conditions having thick, warm clothes and those in the tropics wearing as little as possible. But give a thought to our ancestors who didn't have the benefit of today's technology in clothing to help them out. It's not that many years since waterproof clothing was invented. Before then, people just had to get wet and many sickened and died from the chills they caught. Nowadays we can go out into the worst storm and stay relatively dry and warm. In the olden days, they had only natural fibres like cotton, wool and silk with which to make clothing. Today there are many different fibres, with better insulating and wicking properties. Skiers can wear clothing made especially to keep moisture away from the body. Those working or playing in hostile environments depend on their special type of clothing to keep them warm and so, alive. Article Source: http://www.ArticleBlast.com |
