Emergence of HDR The HDR has come into being for several years, whereas it has got increasing popularization lately in accompany with a large amount of new softs. I will introduce HDR effect and explain why we should choose HDR. Above all, in order to get my word across more clearly, I will make clear some relevant nomenclatures: DR, HDR. First, DR, Dynamic range (DR) refers to the range of luminance values from the darkest to the brightest. Second, HDR, High dynamic range (HDR) in photography means representing the full range of color tune that show the scene highly faithful to the original scene. In respect of photography, HDR has affected it greatly. For example, we intend to take a picture of landscape at sunrise, which is time for go out. There are clouds, sky, remote trees. The sky is fiery, clouds are colorful and trees are dense , which are very picturesque. Nevertheless, the result we get with camera shows us that the clouds lack drama, detail and color, portions of sky are far-exposed and distant trees are turned to be muddy blur. How does it come about? As a matter of fact, it is related to the DR I mentioned previously. The luminance values ratio of real-world is 100,000:1, and that of what your eyes can catch is about 10,000:1, only 10% of the former one. And camera even can only shoot images of 400:1. This is the factor that makes us just take pictures not true-to-life. It is of point using HDR now. What effect on earth can HDR achieve? I think it is of value for you. HDR techniques can be applied to process both single photos or blended panoramic pictures. In such situation I mentioned previoustly, adjusting stitched panoramic images is of necessity. I will present you the brief procedures of making HDR images, but not specific technical ones. It is indispensable to take at least three photos of a same scene with different exposures first of all. The scenes of the three or more must be equal. There should be no any moving the position of camera when we catch these photos. Then we need a fixed tripod. If you want to creat a ideal HDR picture, you may as well select the scenes without any moving things or people, no transformation of light, and no wind, equal to clip static views, otherwise it is probable to have a ghost image. Draw the dark segment of the over exposed picture and the bright proportion of the under exposed ones, and combine them together. In short, take the best portion of each photo and combine them together to make a perfect one. The view is identical with the original scene, and the HDR photo will be more lifelike and vivid than the unmodified one. I illustrating you before is just to specify partial functions and effect of HDR, which does not mean that HDR techniques are only useful for the professional photographers.
