One very important process that you need to undergo in order for you to finally finish your brochure printing
is the folding process. Without the proper fold applied to your
brochures, your collaterals would look just like any other ordinary
paper where you printed your content. Hence, folding is as important as
your design and copy. Folding is not simply applying a fold to your paper and that's it. It takes a lot more to have the right fold in the right place in your brochure templates. When you apply the folding process to your collaterals, what happens is that the method places a lot of pressure to the print material, resulting to the material cracking at the folded area. This could mar an otherwise perfect print job and may pose a negative impact to your marketing campaign. What you need to do is to know how to score to prevent cracking in your collateral. Scoring is crucial to applying the finishing touch to your brochure printing. It is the process of employing a narrow ridge in your paper to reduce, if not to eliminate totally, the cracking. Scoring can also locate where would be the best place to apply your fold. You can ask any professional printing company and they would tell you that scoring can provide you with a more precise and crisp fold without the usual pressure to the paper. The next question now is when do you score? Always. Scoring prevents cracking and in order for you to have that perfect fold, scoring is a necessity. Scoring is especially needed for coated papers. As this type of paper material is the most difficult to apply the fold, scoring prevents the incidence of cracking. Printers usually apply a wide score along with a rounded rule in the process. Similarly, cast-coated paper sheets also need scoring for that perfect fold. However, if you're looking at having a more classy look without the incidence of cracking, premium coated sheets will do the trick. Heavy coated stocks can also benefit from scoring. Particularly those stocks with more than 80# and all cover stocks, scoring can prevent the paper from cracking under pressure and your brochure printing can definitely be at an advantage if you include scoring in your printing process. Definitely, scoring can help reduce if not totally eliminate the incidence of cracking in your marketing material. But it's not the ultimate solution to a crack-free fold in your collateral. It can only reduce any unsightly flaws in your fold. When planning to score, remember to consider all your factors so you can have the best result possible for your print job.
