Marketing needs to be divided up among the different stages that you're at with your customers. The first stage is where the person doesn't know a single thing about you. They've never even heard of your store before, and certainly haven't shopped there. The second stage would probably be that they know about you but they haven't been given a good reason to come in yet. The third stage is someone who has shopped with you once, and the fourth stage is the customers who are starting to become loyal. Each stage is going to need its own unique form of marketing to gain the best results. You can't market to people who don't know anything about you in the same way you would market to those who are loyal. That's why being sure you're aware of each stage is important to maximize your chance of success. The first stage is best served with things like greeting card printing. This is a form of marketing aimed specifically at those who don't know anything about you. Here you'll want to introduce yourself and welcome them into your folds. If it isn't obvious what you do than take the time to explain a little more about yourself. Greeting card printing allows you to first make contact with people in a way you just can't achieve with any other form of marketing, and this is important for making your first impression. If you just start going for the sale right away you might find more people pulling away than anything else. Rather than recognize these various stages most companies just create single marketing pushes aimed at everyone from those who are loyal to those who don't know them. This will usually only appeal to the middle ground, and fail to appease the loyal customers are pull in very many new people. The reason is because the two different sides of the process require very different approaches. A single marketing push will never be able to cater to all of them at once, just like a single advertisement won't be able to pull in people across multiple different markets. Before you start your ad campaign ask yourself which kind of customer you want to focus on the most. This is going to be the first step towards creating just the right type of advertising to get you the best kinds of sales. Once you know who you're focusing on then find out the best way to target that one market. For new people you might choose greeting cards while for your loyal customers you might start up a newsletter instead. Each one will need a unique approach. Marketing needs to be focused to get good results. All I'm saying is that you need to focus your marketing as much as possible.
