Seven Old but Effective Marketing Tools

Advertising in the twenty-first century has moved more and more towards the electronic side. Many ads are now placed on the internet or sent via email. Advertising materials sent through direct mail (or snail mail) are not nearly as common as they once were. Still, there are some traditional marketing tools that can still be very powerful for your company if you use them properly. Here are seven such tools for you to consider adding to your marketing strategy.

Brochures
Although they have been around for what seems like forever, brochures still work very well for most businesses. They keys are to design them properly, and distribute them to the right people. Also, color is important. Full color brochures are more powerful than black and white brochures.

Business Cards
Every person in business has a business card. You should always have a supply on business cards on hand to pass out to prospective customers or potential business associates. Your business cards should include your business name, personal name, and contact information. You can also include some special offers or deals as well.

Calendars
Many businesses do not produce calendars anymore. But there is no reason to abandon this old but effective tool. Calendars are still a very good idea for most businesses. Produce a calendar that has something related to your business on each page. These are great because your customers will look at them all year long.

Flyers
You still see flyers all over the place. You see them on roadside poles, in supermarkets, and inside stores. If you can design some attractive flyers that offer something specific, they can work for you. Be sure to locate them in places where many of your target customers are likely to congregate.

Greeting Cards
Sending personalized greeting cards is a great way to build customer loyalty. This is especially true if you hand write each greeting card. Also, consider sending out greeting cards at some unconventional times, such as Thanksgiving or Valentine's Day. Most companies do not send cards at those times, so yours will stand out.

Postcards
Direct mail postcards are tremendous marketing tools. When you send out postcards, be sure to make them informative in nature. You want your customers to feel like they are reading a beneficial article, not a promotional item. And try to keep them brief and simple.

Posters
Much like flyers, posters can be great advertisements for your company if you design them right and locate them strategically. Posters are usually larger and more detailed than flyers, but be careful not to make them cluttered or overly complicated. And, most importantly, put them up in places where plenty of your target customers will see them.
