Search engine optimization spam is defined as those immoral, dishonest techniques and methods that can improve a site's ranking in search engines. In simpler words, search engine spamming refers to any activity that is drafted to befool the search engines to achieve higher rankings. Spamming on search engines is done by commonly following practices such as using hidden keywords, daily submission of the same web page to the same search engine, creating doorway pages etc.

Therefore, it is necessary to check the techniques or methods while doing the search engine optimization for any website. In this article, we'll talk about major techniques that may cause spamming to a web site.

1. Hidden Text:

The usage of hidden text can be treated as an unethical procedure. In this procedure people implement text of the color same as of the web page. The concept behind this method is to optimize a web page for the search engine. Here, the content is not visible to visitors but a search engine can easily read the content.

2. Auto-Redirecting:

Precisely, auto-redirecting is the technique of automatic transfer of a visitor to another page once he or she lands on a page. Usually, an altogether different web page is located on the same website. When visitors visit at a web page from the listing in the search engine results, they are automatically redirected to another site.

3. Cloaking:

The method is all about opening of different pages to different people on the basis of some criteria. Mainly, the pages get opened according to the geographical locations.

4. Doorway Pages:

Doorway pages are especially created web pages that feature keywords and specific information readable by search engines for some sort of information searches.

Using unethical and unscrupulous techniques does not bring high ranking in long terms. Instead, they are short lived. If a website uses more of such practices, chances are that it can be moved to a search engine's sand box. Once, a web site moves to the sand box, it would be quite difficult to retrieve the web site from it. So, one should avoid using unethical SEO practices.
