There are all sorts of different things you have complete control over when you're doing your postcard printing. This form of advertising naturally gives you more control than you typically get with any other advertisement. You not only have control over what your postcard looks like and says, but you also know exactly who you're going to be sending your postcards to. If you make sure that you have wonderful looking color postcards you can be quite sure that people are going to take notice of them and pick them up out of that pile of mail. But there is one funny little mistake I see many companies making. See, there's one important thing you can't know for certain, and so you have to plan for it. Too many companies fail to do just that. When a person does look down at their mail pile along with your postcard in the middle of it, which side of your postcard is going to be sticking upright? That is a very important question, because far too often a company focuses so much time and attention into the front of the card, but completely disregard the back of it. What I often see are colorful, great images and headlines on the front of the postcard, but then just an address or basic contact information on the back. They don't make the back of the card look interesting at all. The end result is obvious: when a person only sees the back of the card in their mail pile, they end up throwing it away without ever looking at the front of the card. I know I've done this myself when sorting through my mail. I don't bother to flip over all of the postcards to confirm that the other side is interesting. I'm not giving it enough of my attention to do something like that. If it doesn't impress me right away then that's the end of it. You're getting color postcards done, so why not make the entire postcard, both back and front, plenty colorful? Make sure that no matter which side is upright, your card is still going to jump out at people and encourage them to look at it. This is the primary goal of any postcard, after all. You need it to jump out of the pile of mail, and you do have the power to make both sides look good. You might not be able to control which side of the postcard is facing up, but you can certainly control whether both sides are pleasing to the eye and quick to grab someone's attention. All it takes is a little foresight to be sure that you never have to deal with a problem like this. It's such a shame to see a perfectly good postcard go to waste all because the wrong side was facing up.
