Posters can be a successful tool for promoting your new product, services, company, or event. Because they are usually placed in public areas, posters have the potential to reach hundreds of customers each day. To do this, though, a poster must be interesting enough to capture the attention of passers-by in a single glance and cause the reader to take action.

Before opening the design program on your desktop, though, first plan the purpose and style so that your custom poster printing process will be easy and quick. Your purpose could be to present the newest flavor in your line of ice cream products or to merely promote your company name through inspirational messages. Your style could be humorous, formal, or abstract.

• Make the headliner large enough to be read 15-20 feet away
• Include graphics that promote the message of the poster
• Use contrasting colors to catch the eye
• Organize the layout so that it makes sense
• Present a statement that moves the reader to action

Don't
• Clutter with too many pictures
• Use too much color as this can overwhelm the reader
• Choose weak colors for fonts
• Indent the first line in paragraphs
• Double space after punctuation
• Bore readers with long sentences and paragraphs
