When we say promotion, we usually mean doing marketing activities that
create awareness of who you are and what you can do as a business.
These marketing activities usually get the word out so that your target
clients will know the benefits that you have to offer them. It includes
activities such as community involvement, sponsorship of special
events, as well as giving away specialty items during a trade exhibit
or seminar. By doing these marketing activities, you get more exposure,
which leads to your business being recognized and remembered by your
target clients. But the kind of image you convey to your target clients depend on the type of promotional activities you participate in. What and where you choose to market your products and services reflect the image you would want to have for your company. Take for example your brochure printing materials. By distributing your print brochures during a breast cancer research fundraising activity, your company will then be associated with issues affecting women. It is therefore wise to choose where you involve yourself and your company when promoting your business. Community and local events are good business venues. By supporting your community, your locality also becomes an avid supporter of your business. It exudes an image of being involved with your locality, so much so that you have an image of being aware and involved with what's happening to the local community and its people. So when choosing an event or program that you will support, be sure to set specific and do-able goals that can provide you with tangible results. Do not try to set yourself up for failure by wanting to accomplish such big goals. Instead, break your goals into small bite-size pieces that you know very well you can easily accomplish. The more you achieve results from these little efforts, the bigger it would be when you put them all together to reach your main objective. Also try to look for events and programs that can help you get tie-ins that can further reinforce the image you would want to have to your target clients. If you have a sporting goods store for example, you can try to sponsor a golf tournament or a local tennis match. Finally, consider how much budget you have. Your resources will tell you how far you can go with promoting the image you want to your target clients. Look at the time, effort, human resources, equipment, products, facilities and more importantly, the money you can afford to give away during these events and programs. Always look for an organization or activity that would need what you have. If you can share whatever resources you can afford to share, then it can go a long way in getting you an image that you deserve for your business.
