Beyond the Booth: Considerations for Your Tradeshows

Every time a new major tradeshow happens the same thing occurs. A large number of people descend upon the city the tradeshow is located in, and usually stay for a few days.

Now, all of those companies are going to have marketing on the mind. Even if it isn't for their own company they're going to be looking for good contacts. They'll have their eye on the marketing that other companies are doing, because they're looking to both sell stuff themselves and find others to buy from.

Most of this marketing is going to be viewed through the restrictions of whatever booth the company is renting out. They'll bring various business cards, maybe little free items to hand out. I've seen many companies get color poster printing done so they can put up those big colorful posters behind their booth in order to draw the eye.

What a lot of companies don't bother with is advertising very much outside the booth they're in. The reason for this is because many of these companies are going to be going outside of the area that they normally do business in. They aren't necessarily on their own territory, and so they don't consider their advertising possibilities outside of the limits of the tradeshow.

But consider that you know all of these different people are going to be in that particular city, and you know that they're going to be more likely to be on the look out for good business deals.

Many of these tradeshow are announced well in advance, giving you the chance to potentially get some advertising up before the show even begins. Get that color poster printing done, but put up the posters around the area the tradeshow will be in.

You're accomplishing two things with this. The first is the obvious additional publicity you naturally get from having your material up around town, and the second is that people are going to first see your color posters, and then see your booth. You encourage them to talk to you because they've had more time to take notice of your company, and what your current marketing is.

When you're going to these shows surrounded by so many different businesses the ability to stand out can go a very long way. Seize on every chance you have to make your company more noticeable and to get people to remember who you are.

An approach like this sets you up right from the beginning for success by giving you access to a greater level of marketing than most of the other people there. In an environment with so many people marketing at once, any edge might make all the difference in the world. Keep on top of your tradeshow marketing.
