Sale! Obviously, the best way to increase business is to have a sale or special deal. People love a bargain, so be sure to have enough of a price discount or decrease to make it worth people's while. People will oftentimes spend more money on multiple discount items than they would one or two regularly priced items. It's psychological - they're spending more money, but of course, they got an "extra" item or two. Mail a Picture Postcard Design a postcard with an interesting, eye-catching photo or graphic on the front. Try to pick a design or photo that is somehow related to your industry or products. People will be confused and disappointed if they read your postcard and realize that the photo or graphic has nothing to do with your business. Make sure you have a targeted mailing list so that you don't waste your money by mailing postcards to people who aren't likely to respond. Include a call to action on your postcard that tells people about a sale and tells them that they need to get to your store ASAP or they need to call you to order immediately. Urgency works well to motivate people to get to your store. Send Out a Booklet Booklet printing that highlights your products and their benefits can work wonders. Mail the booklet to a targeted audience. By targeting your audience you can choose products to feature that you know your audience will be interested in. You could mail booklets with men's clothing to men on your list and booklets filled with women's clothing to the women on your list. A booklet can be just the thing to drum up some business because people might not have time to flip through an entire catalog, but they have time to glance through a short booklet. Ask for Testimonials Testimonials are great advertising tools. Send a letter to loyal customers and ask them to provide a quote you can use in your marketing materials. You can send a letter or a postcard to ask for their quotes. By asking for testimonials, you'll not only get great quotes, but people will be flattered you asked for their opinion and will be motivated to shop in your store if they haven't for a while. This one's a two-fer! Most customers will be happy to give testimonials, just make sure you get their signature on legal documents that state you can use their testimonials in any and all marketing materials. Communicate Frequently Communicating year-round with customers is more of a preventative measure than a way to drum up business when it's down. But hopefully, this tactic will work well so that you don't have too many downtimes. Make sure to send out a postcard or letter to all your customers on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. Let your customers know you care about them, even when they aren't spending money in your store. This will up their loyalty and they'll be more likely to respond to your other marketing efforts.
