Search engine optimization is a very vast field and
comprises many details to be understood. There are three types of search engine
optimization namely- Homepage optimization, category page optimization and
product or product page optimization. It is not necessary to choose all three
types of optimization or limit your website to just one type. However it purely
depends on your business requirements and the target audience.
All these types of pages differ from each other and so does their method for
optimization. The business goal for home page might be completely different
from the product page, thus giving rise to diverse approaches. Your website's
topic, its fellow competitors, etc influences the decision regarding SEO.
Home page is very crucial from optimization point of view, it is the first page
which a visitor comes across while landing on your website. It is one of the
strongest visual tools for leaving long lasting impression on the site visitor.
The keywords/phrases that are selected should be major ones as this page is
mainly focused one.
Do extensive keyword research to find out the most popular and apt
keywords/phrases for your site content. Keep in mind the competition that would
be faced and whether selection of those particular keywords would help overcome
the competition. Try to be specific in keyword selection rather than general.
So the keywords should be popular also and not general too.
Once the keywords are chosen you can go further in home page optimization. Try
to use the proper keyword in the title tag. Keep the keywords delimited in
order to avoid any future confusion.
Domain names with a keyword may also prove fruitful, but not necessary if the
site name and title tag has it. In on-page optimization keywords usage is done
in headers, content and many such places. Every other page on your website
should link back to the home page just by a single click.
Category page is like a subsection of a website. Its optimization has more
number of specified keywords compared to the home page. If the competition for
keywords for home page is fierce than there are chances that for category page
it would be lesser aggressive. Number of home page is only one where as
category page can be more in numbers.
Content or product pages are the online space that can be used for addition of
ample and variety of keywords/phrases. But it should be done by white hat SEO
techniques.
The idea is to mix ‘n' match the different web pages for search
engine optimization with carefully selected range of keywords/phrases. All
pages require attention and proper SEO techniques for better online results.
