Ruby on Rails often called RoR or Rails is an open source web
development framework. It is an object oriented programming language
that helps in developing web applications. It is gaining popularity in
the development world due to its "instant-web development" concept. It
is known for its ability to build simple, complete and powerful Web
applications quickly and with ease.
Rails is an integrated framework that utilizes the powerful nature of the object-oriented Ruby programming language. RoR is developed using the Model-View-Controller Design Pattern. Its highly effective quick web development strategy gives extra edge to ROR developers over other developers. Convention over Configuration (CoC) and Don't repeat yourself (DRY) are the basic principle of RoR. "Don't repeat yourself" means that information is located in a single categorical place. "Convention over Configuration" means a developer only needs to specify unconventional aspects of the application. Also it is easy to deploy web solutions using Rails as it works well with wide range of web servers and databases that implement CGI or Fast SGI.
