With the winter melting away and the leaves appearing on the trees, all male heads are turning towards the World Cup, in South Africa. A record number of people are expected to head east this summer and be a part of history, watching the World Cup, which is great news for South African tourism. According to Abta - The Travel Association, the fact the country is holding the World Cup in 2010 will encourage significantly more British tourists than usual to visit the nation. Spokesman Sean Tipton stated: "There's around about 650,000 [British tourists visiting South Africa] a year but with the World Cup, it is going to go through the roof next year." South Africa is historically unstable, but in recent years has seen a flourish in the amount of British travellers holidaying there. Their tourist board issue advice to travellers about car jacking and how to keep yourself safe when in South Africa. This seems to have settled a lot of people's minds and encouraged more visitors to flock to the country, especially in the winter months here, when it is much warmer there. To make it easier to cope with the larger amount of tourism flooding into the country, South Africa's Department of Home Affairs is to issue special "event visas" for soccer fans coming to the 2009 Fifa Confederations Cup and 2010 Fifa World Cup, enabling fans to use dedicated counters at major airports around the world for pre-clearance before they arrive in the country. When travelling abroad, travel insurance is very important, as you need to make sure you are covered in the event of anything going wrong. If you travel a lot during the year, then consider taking our an Annual Travel Insurance policy, so you do not have to worry about calling up and booking every time you go away. These are normally paid on a monthly basis, so you won't be shocked with another outgoing just before you jet off!!
