This summer many Britons will be travelling to the sun in Spain or Greece and with many of these summer holiday hotspots having a wide range of activities from water parks to historic ruins it can be tough to fit it all in in the two or three weeks you have to spend. For many UK holiday makers they will take the opportunity to hire a car and go their own way, there are normally many car hire businesses in resorts for the quick and painless way of acquiring a vehicle whilst on holiday. The Institute of Advanced Motoring however has warned this year's holidaymakers to take care when taking out car hire abroad. The reasoning behind this warning is the insurance costs of hiring a car on holiday as well as getting the vehicle you were promised. If you book car hire in this country prior to travelling then you'll often be offered excess insurance which would prevent you having to pay the insurance excess, the initial nominated cost of any insurance claim, you'd expect to have to pay this with your own car but when you're on holiday you don't want to be left worrying about having to make a large payment in the event of a crash or claim. Having to do so would certainly put a dampener on your holiday and being insured against such an occurrence would certainly ease the worry. There is a second point that the IAM have warned people about Car Hire that pertains to booking car hire before leaving. You should make sure that you book your vehicle as according to your needs and that you get confirmation of what vehicle you've booked. The IAM has received reports of some holiday makers being short changed when they arrive and end up with a different vehicle to what they booked. If you're going away this summer and plan to book your Car Hire ahead of time then make sure you get all the details of the car before setting off. Booking over the internet can help achieve cheap car hire but you need to compensate for the lack of seeing the car personally by making sure you're clear on all the details and the level of coverage with regards to insurance.
