Still planning to go on holiday next year despite the credit crunch's best efforts to keep you in the UK? Follow these tips to ensure you make it abroad next year along with a comfortable holiday budget.

Avoid heavy baggage fees - some of the economy airlines will charge you for bringing additional luggage back to the UK and an average family of four with an extra bag on their return could be set to pay around £130. If you need to take additional baggage, book online to reduce these costs.

Pay with local money wherever you can - if any shops or restaurants offer the chance to pay in pounds then you should ignore them, pay in local currency as they will charge you extortionate exchange rates for doing so.

Research cheap calls - ask your provider before you go abroad to see what the best option is as if you use your phone a lot you could be charged an extremely high amount.

Use your credit / debit card wisely - most card providers will charge you around 3% on all transactions whether it's paying a bill or withdrawing cash out.

Don't exchange at the airport - make sure you research the best rates before exchanging, the airport rates are known to be the highest around and it could shave your spending allowance considerably.

Watch out for the text charges - consider buying an international texting package from your provider before you go abroad as some networks quadruple their costs for sending a message.

Follow these tips to save money on your holidays, use online price comparison sites to find a range of all inclusive holidays or package holidays; this could save you a lot of money for your holidays.
