Tips for Travelling With Children

Travelling with young children can be a challenging task. After all, children can become easily bored or irritated during long trips, and parents can't always rely on the comforts of home to deal with these challenges. That's why it's always a good idea to thoroughly prepare for a trip that's to be taken with children.

For starters, keep your children "in the loop" with regard to travel plans. Kids love to feel included in the planning process, so ask them what they'd like to do, or tell them what types of activities they can look forward to during the getaway. You can also help them get excited for the trip by providing them with fun facts on planes, trains, or other modes of travel you plan to take. If your child tends to get anxious during travel, try explaining even the simplest tasks before they occur - for example, tell them that you're going to collect all your baggage before you head over to the baggage claim. If a child knows what's going to occur ahead of time, he or she might feel less anxious.

Next, don't forget to pack a small bag with basic necessities for your child. For instance, it's always a good idea to pack some easy-to-eat snacks, just in case your child gets hungry and there's no convenient place to buy a snack. You'll also want to pack an extra set of clothing for your child, as well as extra baby wipes, bibs, and nappies for younger children.

Of course, it's also wise to prepare with entertainment options for your child. Many airlines now offer in-flight entertainment - much of which is geared towards entertaining children. However, not all airlines - let alone trains, ferries, or your family car - will offer this luxury. So make sure you pack a range of compact games, puzzles, toys, or books to keep them entertained while travelling.

Another great way to make travel fun for your kids is to allow them to carry a small piece of luggage with their own belongings - for example, their travel games or toys. After all, kids love to be included when it comes to packing and pulling luggage along. One example of a design that's great for kids is the Trunki - a fun, ride-on suitcase featuring character designs. Because it's made of durable plastic - and because of its secure side hatches - it's not only safe and fun for kids to ride on, but also a quality piece of luggage for travel.

Last but not least, give yourself extra time for most tasks during your travels - whether it's getting to the airport, boarding your plane, or getting from the baggage claim to a taxi. Even the most basic activities can take much longer to do when you have children with you - so forego the stress and give yourself extra time.

So, no matter how you plan to travel with your children - whether by boat, train, ferry, or in your car - keeping just a few important tips in mind can help make the travel experience more enjoyable and stress free.
