People who read my blog know that I can be tight
with a dollar, not to put too fine a point on it- being a travel agent isn't
the ticket to wealth that some of you seem to think, and the recession hasn't
helped matters any. More of you need to start taking vacations again! I search
the world for deals on cheap hotels and pass that information on to you, which
should help. What some of my readers may not realize -at least unless they dig
through my archives and don't just read what happens to be on the front page-
is that I also have an extravagant side. I have an appreciation for the finer
things in life: Paris dinners, Bermuda brunches,
New York
night clubs and majorca hotels. Trust me; it can be quite a challenge managing
these two contrasting drives in my life. Fortunately, when I'm feeling the need
to travel somewhere exotic, yet actually be able to afford the accommodation, I
can quickly hit the web and use a site like hotels4u.com to track down my
favorite: cheap hotels that are to die for. In February I was absolutely crawling the walls and crazy to get out of here. The snow was nice at Christmas, annoying in January and absolutely depressing by February. My first thought was the Mediterranean Sea, Spain and the lovely majorca hotels featured in the pamphlets all over the front counter in my office. That's when fiscally responsible girl took over from exotic girl and pointed out that none of these oases would usually be considered cheap hotels. An ordinary travel agent would have given up at that point, but not me. I wanted fun in the sun! I fired up my web browser and got to work. The first swing of my trip ended up being Spain, with three days on the beautiful island of Majorca (in the Mediterranean). While I got in some beach time, I tended to hang out at the pools of the two different majorca hotels I stayed at. Next up was the highlight, Sharm El Sheikh on Egypt's Red Sea coast. I've never experienced scuba diving this intense, with crystal clear water and swarms of tropical fish. When I needed a break from the beach scene, I took a desert safari that was another unique experience. The sharm el sheikh hotels more than lived up to their luxurious reputation and I have to say, this was one of my best and most reasonably priced vacations ever.
