Solve the winter blues with a winter getaway

It may not be the best time to mention it but soon summer will be halfway gone, which is depressing since we haven't exactly had our fair share of summer weather here in the UK as of late. The good news is that many of us will be jetting off or may already have jetted off to sunnier climes to enjoy our time off on holiday.

If you are like me though you won't be going away to Spain or Greece for a slice of the sunny weather and Sangria, the most sun I will see is at the music festivals this August and even then they are notorious for rubber boot weather and lots of mud.

But all is not lost; you could get yourself a cheap last minute deal and score yourself a few weeks in the sun or could tempt fate, not go away in the summer and risk the British weather and take your holidays at a different time, like winter for instance.

Now before you dismiss the idea, you'll find that many cheap flights crop up once the school summer holidays pass, so booking yourself a holiday in September or even better, in the winter is likely to cost much less. Sure you may be going slightly out of season but it's cheaper and also less chance of being stuck in a cramped high rise hotel with thousands of other sun worshippers, so there's your peace and quiet!

One possibility is the perfect remedy for the winter blues, Aruba! Aruba, apart from having a song devoted to it by the Beach Boys is a small island in the Caribbean off the coast of Venezuela and Columbia. By saying it was in the Caribbean I've already probably conjured up the right kind of images in your mind; Sunny beaches and long drinks with a pleasant Caribbean trade wind keeping you cool in the midday sun.

You may be wondering how on earth you're going to get to Aruba; well flights company First Choice has announced new charter flights to Aruba every fortnight during the winter months. Flight companies already run services to Aruba flying from Gatwick and Manchester but by stepping up the number of flights to the Caribbean it suggests that maybe more people are looking to escape the snow and drizzle this winter to get some much needed sun.
