Manchester has re-invented itself in recent years and has become a thriving city with an array of things to see and do. In fact, hosting the Commonwealth Games back in 2002 gave the whole of Manchester a lift and left the city with an extra spring in its step.

Manchester is home to one of the biggest brands anywhere in the world; Manchester United Football Club. Millions of people go to their Old Trafford stadium to either view a match or savour the illustrious history of this renowned sporting institution.

Furthermore, Manchester City Football Club is also enjoying a much more global appeal in recent times with new foreign owners and not to mention a string of top footballing talent from many different countries. But, whether you're a fan of either team or not, taking the time to watch a game when you're in Manchester, is an entertaining way to spend an afternoon.

However, it is not possible to speak of Manchester without a mention of their music scene, which has been known to be influential to the many artists of even today. The music scene in Manchester is a vibrant one and the city can lay claim to Oasis, Joy Division and The Happy Mondays, to name but a few of its successful bands.

In addition, 2009 is shaping up to be a busy time for the city, with an array of events taking place in Manchester. As such, if you'd prefer something a little more active to do when you visit Manchester; why not enter the BUPA Great Manchester Run 2009? This 10K race is a great way to see the city and run through streets that would normally be filled with traffic.

However, no trip to Manchester would be complete without sampling the mouth-watering selection of cuisine on offer. From Chinatown to the famous Curry Mile; you are really spoilt for choice, as there are restaurants representing countless countries from all over the world.

As it goes, the city is becoming less famous for it rainy days and justifiably known for the great social life, top class events and entertainment it attracts. And, with so much to do it is therefore good to know that you will find that many Manchester hotels provide a standard of stay that wouldn't be out of place in any of the world's most stylish cities.

So, with such popular attractions in football, shopping and leisure activities; it would seem that Manchester is a city that has a little something for everyone. And in that respect, you can be sure that a visit to this vibrant city is sure to be one for the memories.
