Every year, millions of American's travel abroad, basking in the culture and beauty of foreign lands. As international travel continues to grow, so too do the chances for overseas injury and disease; especially with epidemics like the H1N1 and bird flu running rampant. The increase in risks, whether health based or otherwise, should not discourage travelers from taking a well deserved, and often educational, holiday to another country, but special precautions should be taken to ensure the trip is as enjoyable as possible.
The changes to the national healthcare plan already create a nervous situation at home, and there is little indication of how it will affect international travel. Even current healthcare plans may not include international travel insurance coverage, or only supply limited treatment, depending on the type of plan and the provisions allowed. Travel insurance is a relatively unknown industry that focuses on the needs of individuals and families while they are abroad.
By specifically offering trip insurance, companies are able to focus on the specific needs of their customers, covering health issues, baggage complications, trip and flight delays, and even providing assistance for the worst possible scenario. While some traditional healthcare plans do provide international travel insurance, it is normally limited in duration and does not cover extended stays. Likewise, HMO's and PPO's are based on in-network coverage with most of their physicians being local only, while travel insurance provides for care when and where it is needed.
Yet, international travel insurance is not limited to only handling healthcare needs abroad, but also cares for more common problems like lost luggage and delayed flights. There is nothing worse than arriving in a foreign country only to realize that all the clothes and toiletries a family needs to survive have been delivered to another airport, or worse, are completely lost with no hope of recovery. The amount of money required to replace lost luggage can quickly cut into the expenses meant for entertainment or food, leaving travelers to feel an unnecessary financial pinch on their holiday.
The coverage provided by trip insurance allows travelers to enjoy their vacations, focus on their business trips, or pursue a lifelong dream without fearing the costs associated with emergency hospital bills, replacement clothes, and delays. In many cases, when a trip must be cancelled, reimbursement up to the entire cost of the trip may be provided. Article Source: http://www.ArticleBlast.com |
