The county of Galway is situated on the west side of Ireland and encompasses many different towns and villages, as well as Galway city. A trip to county Galway can be as action packed or relaxing as you like; you can explore the bustling city or take your time discovering the authentic Irish towns, villages and seaside spots. Whatever you feel like doing, Galway is sure to have something to suit.

Situated on the west coast of Ireland, Galway is easy to reach whether you are travelling by air, road or rail. The bus station, situated just off Eyre Square, has frequent services that connect to all major cities in the Republic and the North.

The train station is close to the bus station and up to five trains run daily to Dublin as well as regular routes to other destinations.

If you need to book flights for your trip then the closest major airport is Shannon airport. You may be able to get flights to Galway airport and Knock airport is also within easy reach of Galway.

Once you have arrived in Galway, be sure to take in some of the great sights and indulge in a slice of Irish life. If you like the great outdoors then you will be pleased to know that Galway is home to some spectacular scenery. Galway Bay has it all; deserted beaches, mountains and castles, clear lakes and flowing rivers. This corner of Ireland has a varying countryside which is dotted with pretty villages where you can stop for a drink in a traditional pub before being on your way.

Connemara is a particularly popular place to visit. Boasting some of the most spectacular lakes and links in the whole of the country you can hike across the craggy mountains and windswept bogs to enjoy the views, angle for fish in one of the many lakes or simply enjoy an afternoon's game of golf.

The picturesque town of Clifden is the capital of Connemara and worth a visit if you are visiting the area. Connemara National Park, situated near Letterfrack, covers almost 5000 acres of scenic countryside which rolls around the slopes of the Twelve Bens.

East Galway has the heritage towns of Athenry, Ballinasloe, Gort, Tuam and Loughrea where you can soak up some genuine Irish hospitality and the Aran Islands are where you will find Dun Aonghasa fort.

Galway City is steeped in history but as a quarter of the population consists of students, there is a contemporary vibe.

Food lovers will be at home in Galway City where the world famous oysters can be sampled, as well as other delicacies and a pint of Galway Hooker ale makes a fine way to end our day.

Hotels in Galway are plentiful and you shouldn't have any trouble finding a spot to rest your head, whether you have cash to flash or are looking for a cheap and cheerful option.
