Manchester is world-renowned for its many colourful characteristics, ranging from its well-established music scene to its array of fascinating museums and galleries. The city is also famous for its sporting events, from football and horseracing to rugby and water polo. So, whether you're a sports enthusiast, or simply like to witness a bit of competitive play now and again, head to Manchester this summer - you're bound to be pulled in by the city's range of exciting sporting events!
If you love football, you're sure to be able to catch a game in Manchester - especially if you're a fan of Manchester United or Manchester City. There are also countless games going on nearby, including those played by Premiership sides Wigan, Bolton and Burnley as well Preston, Blackpool, Oldham and many others. However, games aside, football fans might be interested in visiting Manchester's National Football Museum. With a range of interactive exhibits and historical football items on display, this attraction is ideal for football fans of all ages. However, if rugby is your sport of choice, you'll have the Manchester Rugby 7s Festival to look forward to this July. The first festival of its kind, this event will see 100 rugby teams competing in six tournaments, including ladies, legends, and the International Invitation Cup. Fancy dress and camping are invited, while live bands, party marquees and a kid's rugby camp will all be present at the event. Fans of horseracing should head to Haydock Park - a racing venue located near Manchester. With a calendar of racing events throughout the summer, you can enjoy the excitement of these games no matter when you visit the city. However, aside from the actual races held at Haydock Park, the venue also hosts a series of Ladies' Nights and Music Nights - the latter of which combines live music with racing. The Ladies' nights, on the other hand, mix racing with high-class fashion - perfect for the fashionista! Other key events include the Totesport Rose of Lancaster Stakes, the Betfred Sprint Cup Day, and the Betfair Chase Day - all bringing an exceptional air of excitement to Haydock Park. These are just a few of the sporting events being held in Manchester this summer. However, if you love sports, you can count on a range of other exciting sport happenings. Check the city's sport calendar to make sure your Manchester flights are in line with the events you want to see and get ready for some sporting excitement in the UK this summer.
