Cost of living won't deter British holidaymakers

Every day we hear about a new rise in the cost of living whether its house prices or fuel like petrol, it certainly isn't cheap living in the UK these days. But despite all this doom and gloom back home it isn't stopping people from taking their annual holidays in the summer months this year.

A survey carried out by travel firm Trip Advisor found that compared to the rest of the world us Brits are going to be making our annual escape to the sun despite the rising costs back home. Many families will obviously be struggling this year considering all the price hikes including: Gas and electricity prices, tax band alterations, petrol prices, house prices, food costs and a whole lot more.

The thing is that the British public love their holidays and make the most of the time that they have together during the school summer holidays, many families will have set aside a set amount of money for their holidays even if it leaves them slightly out of pocket when they return.

As a part of the survey it was found that there was a common list of factors that may affect whether people would go on holidays this year. Only 21% of us said we wouldn't go on holiday because of the rising cost of petrol, this figure contrasts to the number for the rest of the world, being 41%.

The current state of the economy was a higher priority for more Brits as 38% of those surveyed said their holiday choice would be affected by the exchange rate with that country's local currency, recently the pound has recently fell foul of the Euro and could see more travellers heading to the United States where the UK's pound is strong against their Dollar.

The only problem with this is the added flight costs, whilst these may not be as cheap as they were a few years back there are still bargains to be had as many people found last Christmas with a record number of UK travellers going to New York for their Christmas shopping. So whilst it may not be a case of cheap holidays to these destinations there is definitely a chance to make the most of your money whilst you're there!

Another factor surveyed was time people booked off work; over two thirds will be booking the majority of their time off for the summer holidays with 19% taking all their entitlement off.

With all the last minute holidays a deal surfacing at this time of year it isn't surprising that more of us will be taking advantage of these deals with the cost of other areas increasing.
