These days if you were to book a hotel room you are less likely to get just a bed and a bathroom and more likely to get much more for your money. Hotels have moved with the times and have made themselves more attractive to the 21st century traveller with many new technological devices and services being provided to the guest. These days a five star hotel is more likely to offer you a games console and a 42 inch television than gold taps and a stocked mini fridge. Free wireless internet access is a regular commodity these days in hotels as the modern hotel guest may be a travelling businessman and would need to remain connected to the outside 24/7, many people can now access the internet using their phones too so wireless internet is a must in most hotels. Other more expensive hotels have even started adding interesting extras to help a guest relax, such as a Nintendo Wii video games console. Things like this and enormous plasma screen TVs are obviously not going to be the norm everywhere you go but in the places where they have been placed the guests have all sung high praise for the hotels with their imaginative ways of providing for their guests. Other ways in which hotels can go above and beyond the norm for their guests can be found in Japan, where hotel rooms have espresso machines, nail dryers and the internet radio is even tuned to the guest's country of residence. iPod docks are even installed in to guest's rooms so they can pump their tunes whilst staying in the hotel. It isn't just the hotel's rooms where the technology shines but there are many ways where technology has helped to improve the hotel's running such as self check in much like the way that people have been able to with airports. By doing this you can save waiting in line in the hotel's reception and also avoid any late check in penalties if your flight is delayed. One other technological innovation is the introduction of RFID hotel keys, you may not have heard of the name but chances are if you've stayed in a hotel in the past ten years you'll have used a credit card like card rather than a key to enter your room. This is a more secure way than a conventional lock that thieves could pick but also is easy to replace as typically in reception they will have a machine to program blank keys to specific rooms. Many cheap hotels are getting in on these technological advances too with a lot of them adopting a modular construction method where they can rearrange the layout of their rooms and even expand some if they need to relatively easily. There's even many Bed and Breakfasts who are now offer wireless internet too. Obviously it can be seen as a luxury but these days you'd be surprised as to how many people expect these new additions as something they get as standard. It all helps create a lasting impression on the guests who will go home and tell their friends/businesses that the hotel was great and would definitely recommend staying there in future.
