Chardham is a combination of four religious destinations for the Hindus in the Garhwal range of the Majestic Himalayas in the state of Uttaranchal. The Chardham has been the destination of thousands of Hindu pilgrims for Centuries. It is said that the journey to these four holy destinations will not only wash away the sins, that the person has committed in his life, but also will relieve him from the circles of birth and death. The Chardham or the four sacred places include Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. The journey usually starts from Yamunotri and proceed forward to Gangotri, Kedarnath, and finally ending at Badrinath. All of us know the importance of rituals performed for the almighty. But most of us are unaware of the fact that taking pilgrimage tour in India of the Chardhams will not only bring us closer to GOD and make us spiritual but also cleanse ourselves of all sins and take us close to MOKHSA(releasing ourselves from the continuous cycle of birth and death). The whole world is torn between spirituality and religion but I beg to differ as they both have the same destination "the almighty" but they do differ in their paths a little. Spirituality is all about appeasing the spirit, which is a part of god no matter who says what and religion is all about the paths that leads to the GOD. Religion speaks volume about keeping the spirit clean of all sins, wrong-doings and hatred. Hinduism considered the mother of all other religions has its own unique and simple ways to lead a peaceful and clean life among which priority is given to . Keeping the body clean as it is the abode of spirit(a part of god himself). Practicing religious duties such as meditation, fasting and prayers. Visiting the Chardham once in your life time and appeasing all the god and goddesses by means of various rituals Chardham points us to the four sacred adobes of GOD in the four directions of India. Badrinath in north, Puri in east, Dwarka in west and Rameshwaram in south. Peeking into the history of Chardhams we get to know a great philosopher Sri Sri Adi Shankaracharya who travelled throughout the country and grouped these four sacred places into Chardham dedicating it to the Bishnuavatars(incarnations). A new word Do Dham comes into mind which consists of sri badrinathji and sri kedarnathji. Badrinath located in Uttarakhand is the most prioritized of the four sites. It rests in the shadow of nilakantha peak.Puri located in Orissa has its own importance it is said that your pilgrimage of the four sacred places is fruitless if you haven't been to puri.Dwarka present in Gujarat is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna. It is also believed that it had submerged in the sea six times and the present-day dwarka is the seventh city to be built.Rameshwaram is located in the southernmost state Tamilnadu and it is believed that Sri Rama built the Rama-setu from here.
