London is crammed with so many activities and things to do that you can't fail to have a great time, no matter time of the year you choose to visit. What's more, there is plenty to appeal to everyone, regardless of whether you are visiting on your own or with the whole family in tow.

Many people tend to stick to the usual haunts and famous landmarks and, by doing this, they miss out on seeing a whole other side of London which has its own fair share of delights on offer.

So when the city gets busy and the streets are crowded, why not head for the water instead? London has plenty of water based activities to offer and you don't just need to stick to the River Thames either. The Thames provide a good place to start though, as there are plenty of river cruises that operate both during the day and well into the evening, giving you the chance to enjoy a relaxing day of sightseeing and a spot of lunch or dinner.

And when the sun goes down there is nothing quite like seeing London lit up from the river as you go underneath the famous Tower Bridge. Be sure to take your camera, as the River and the surrounding area provide unforgettable photo opportunities.

If you find yourself near Hyde Park you should make a direct line for the Serpentine Boating Lake which gives you the opportunity to jump in a boat or a pedalo and spend some time drifting around the lake. It is also a very picturesque area, and taking a stroll along its banks is almost as enjoyable as rowing across it.

If you prefer canals to lakes then you should make a bee-line for Little Venice, a wonderful part of London that many tourists miss out on. The area of Little Venice marks the point where two canals come together and is only a short distance from Paddington Station. A leisurely walk along the canals as they make their way through the city is an excellent way to see some of the more hidden, quaint parts of London, without the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Little Venice is certainly a discovery you'll want to keep to yourself!

Whatever you are planning to do during your stay there are plenty of hotels in London situated close to many water based activities. The beauty of these areas of London is that they look stunning all year round, regardless of what the weather might be. All of which gives you every reason to plan a visit to the Capital in the near future.
