Let it Rain in Puerto Vallarta

Folks who are familiar with childrens poetry might be inclined to suggest that its not good to be as rude as the rain that shows up uninvited. To be fair, though, its not really the rains fault theres a whole system of moisture and temperature that work together to produce the rain showers that fall on Puerto Vallarta villas and the people who stay in them.
Whither the rain?
Theres no way around it; when conditions come together in just the right way, they produce a lovely, wet day. Is this a problem? No, it is not. First of all, unless those Puerto Vallarta villas are actually gingerbread houses and their residents gingerbread people, theyre not likely to melt in a shower. And besides, who didnt love to play in the rain as a child? So dont sit inside and sulk when it rains, get out there and embrace those drippy little drops.
Lets return to the Childrens Corner to learn more about the mechanics of a damp day on Banderas Bay. Robert Louis Stevenson sums it up as well as anyone: Misty moisty was the morn, and cloudy was the weather. Thats right, those beautiful puffy clouds rocking your way have within their bellies the makings of a rain storm. It doesnt matter if its a gentle drizzle or a gully washer, rain starts in the clouds. No clouds, no rain.
A cloud maker
Its a bit more complicated than that (isnt everything?), but heres an extremely simplified version. Warm moist air rises and the droplets of water make clouds. When the droplets grow heavy enough, they begin to fall back to earth. The more the droplets get knocked around in the cloud, the more they crash into each other and the sooner the cloud from nowhere will begin to deliver the drops.
Believe it or not, you can build your own cloud-making machine (surely youve heard the phrase tempest in a teapot). Youre going to need a clear glass jar (think peanut butter jar), a piece of thin cloth, a rubber band, and some ice cubes. Pour hot water into the jar to heat the glass; dump all but about an inch in the bottom. Cover the mouth of the jar with cloth and hold it tight with the rubber band stretched around the jar. Put the ice on top of the cloth and there you have it a little cloudy day in a jar.
