Gorgeous Walks in the City of Leeds

Walking holidays are the perfect way to relax, but not all of us are that keen on spending a week in the countryside. If you're determined to enjoy some gorgeous scenery while never straying too far from the city, however, a trip to Leeds could be the best option.

The Leeds Country Way is a long-distance footpath circling around Leeds that offers fantastic country scenery, as well as great hiking, running and walking opportunities. Best of all, despite being a whopping 62 miles long, the Leeds Country Way never gets more than seven miles away from Leeds City Square, which means you don't have to travel too far to get back to your hotel after a long day's walking, especially when you're tired out.

The path is split into several routes that are then divided into sections. This makes the route easier to contend with, as well as providing simple and accurate means by which to judge how far a section is. You can pick up a leaflet from various places, including Leeds tourist information, that will help you to plan where you want to go along the route and whether you want to walk a certain distance or just start at any one point and set off.

The four routes combine into the full 62 mile distance and are comprised of sections from Golden Acre to Barwick-in-Elmet, then from Barwick-in-Elmet to Carlton followed by from Carlton to Cockersdale and Cockersdale back to Golden Acre. Each of these four sections, however, are also split into smaller parts to create more manageable walks for you to enjoy.

The Leeds Country Way is a beautiful path, packed with several iconic attractions such as forts and castles, England's tallest maypole, nature reserves and the pleasant surprise of the set used for popular British television Emmerdale - soap fans bring your binoculars!

When you've had your fill of taking in the sights of Yorkshire countryside, it's a good thing to know that the Leeds city centre is close by and you'll be able to return with ease to enjoy a hearty meal after all that exercise. It also means that your Leeds hotels are never too far away when you're ready for a good night's rest following a day's walking - and, in the morning when you're raring to get going, you don't have to travel too far to get back out there in the beautiful English countryside.
