How to Improve Your Softball Pitching Technique |

If there's a position that's very important in every softball team, that would be the pitcher. That's because most games are decided on how well a pitcher throws the ball at the batter. And it's not just about speed. A good pitcher is also accurate at throwing the ball. An accurate pitch can draw the difference between a strike and a ball, an out and a walk. So if you want to be a good pitcher, you need to refine your technique and arm yourself with every arsenal that a good pitcher needs. Let me show you how you can improve your softball pitching technique: 1. Always begin with warm-ups. The trouble with most pitchers is that they're so excited to play the game that they often forget to do their warm-ups first. But that poses several problems to pitchers, or any player of any position for that matter. Skipping warm-ups reduces your performance level because you haven't given your muscles the time to loosen up yet. Aside from that, you also expose yourself to the risk of injury by not warming-up. 2. Focus on your accuracy. I mentioned earlier about the importance of being an accurate pitcher. So if you want to become a better pitcher, you must focus on drills that will help improve your accuracy. One such drill is by hitting a piece of 8.5x11 paper that's taped to the mouth of a small box. This drill will help you focus your throws on a very small area, thus improving your accuracy. 3. Refine your pitching mechanics. Pitching is also about nailing your fundamental pitching skills. Learn the proper stance, the proper way of throwing the ball, follow through, etc. As they say, learn the rules first then break them later. If you can't do the basics, you can never expect yourself to become a faster, stronger and more accurate pitcher. The fundamentals show you how to throw the ball correctly, and once you get it right, everything else will follow. So make sure you get your fundamentals right first. 4. Increase your strength. While I'm telling you to improve your accuracy, I'm not saying that you should forget about strength training. You still need to make the muscles involved in pitching stronger, particularly those in your forearms, wrists and shoulders. 5. Increase your endurance. You might not realize it right away, but endurance also plays an integral role in softball. If you get tired easily, you'll surely notice the difference it makes to how you throw your pitches, how fast your pitches are and how accurate you throw them. Increasing your endurance helps you stick with the game longer, even if it stretches to several more innings, or if you're playing under the direct heat of the sun. All in all, these are the basic things that will help you improve your softball pitching techniques. Along with these, you should never forget to practice regularly. Regular practice helps keep your game consistent especially if you're returning from the off-season. Article Source: http://www.ArticleBlast.com |
