It is true that the masses spend a great deal of time
wasting time on hold. This especially feels longer if the company doesn't even
have an on hold music message. But one advantage of being put on hold is the
ability to multi-task and get other things done while you are waiting. But what
can you do while you wait? What things can you accomplish? Well, first of all,
it is important to either have a Bluetooth or a cordless phone; some type of
hands-free equipment so that you can move around and you won't be restricted to
one area of your house. So below is a small list of ideas of things you can do
while you are on hold.
- Get a nice workout. You can do lunges, sit ups,
bicep curls; you name it, you can probably do it. Just make sure you don't do
heavy cardio while you wait. You might sound like a weirdo on the phone when
you actually have to start your conversation.
- Get ahead on your cleaning. That's right. You
can do some light cleaning: dishes, general pick up, wash counters, put in some
laundry. Just make sure that the chores you choose that they aren't too loud so
that you will be aware when the operator comes back to the phone. You wouldn't
want to start that process all over again, trust me!
-
Balance your checkbook. It is hard to squeeze
such a small thing into your busy schedule. I know how hard it is to find the
time to do this menial task, but now you have the perfect time.
- Pay your bills. Just like balancing your
checkbook, this can be the perfect time
to squeeze this in. If you don't have online bills, it might take a
little extra time to write out each check, address every envelope, and make
sure you have available stamps. But seriously, this is the perfect time. What
else do you have to do? Just waiting around, right?
-
Turn on your favorite music and have your own
dance party. OK. Fine. I admit it. This is one of my personal favorites, especially
if I am home alone. You don't have to be
embarrassed about your skill, or lack thereof. It is just time for you to
relax, be yourself, and de-stress. You don't get many minutes throughout the
day to do this, so take advantage of it while you can.
- Enjoy the outdoors. That's right! Leave the
confines of your house and go in your front or backyard. Sit on the grass and
enjoy the sunshine. If it isn't warm, you can still enjoy the weather. Just go outside and breathe in the fresh air.
This is a great way to relieve stress as well. Give it a try; I bet you will love
it!
- Keep in touch with friends and family. Take the
time to catch up on your emails to your loved ones. Go ahead and give them the
updates that you have been putting off for a little while. It is also a great
time to sit down and write those hand-written letters. You know...snail mail.
Remember that? You'd be surprised how many people love getting real letters in
the mail now-a-days. I know that I do.
- Catch up on the book you've been dying to read.
Just have a seat on the couch and relax while you wait. It is definitely the
perfect time to read your book or your magazine. This is a good time to put
your phone on speaker phone so you don't have to worry about keeping the phone
to your ear. Again, you don't want to miss the person when they finally come
back to the phone.
- Time for that manicure and pedicure! Now you
have the time to do it yourself. Treat yourself to a soothing manicure or
pedicure. The pedicure might be your best bet since you wouldn't want to mess
up your new manicure when you actually have to pick up the phone again. Also,
be careful if you have to go through papers while you are on the phone. Stick
with the pedicure at that point.
So now that you have a few more tips and tricks to
multi-tasking when put on hold, you will feel like you've had a more
accomplished day, as well as being less stressed in the long run. One thing to
try and avoid is taking a nap while on hold. I tried this before. I was
actually on the phone with the California DMV. And for anyone that has ever had
to call them knows the wait time is close to an hour or longer. They are always
backed up. It is a good thing that I am an extremely light sleeper. Even then,
I almost missed when the guy actually picked up my line! So beware. Find better
ways to get things done but make sure you are still coherent when you actually
have to talk to that person on the phone. Article Source: http://www.ArticleBlast.com |
