Life is never as simple as we'd like to think, especially when it comes to serious eating disorders. Those who suffer from the debilitating effects of anorexia, bulimia, or obsessive overeating suffer from more complex problems than can be defined with a one-size-fits all cure or rote explanation. Though the disorders often feature universal symptoms because that is the nature of humanity, they stem from complex and deeply seeded issues that are the life challenges of each individual. As such, a treatment plan must be personal as well as individualized; stressing a rehabilitative process of healing that is uniquely inline with that individual's needs, interests, and challenges. Because these disorders affect the broad spectrum of the individual's life, a healing plan must encompass a complete span of therapy, both psychological as well as spiritual.
An effective eating disorder treatment center treats the unique and complex problems that lie at the heart of the disorder. Treatment recognizes that the individual's eating problems stem directly from complex issues that must be resolved at their core to prove an effective healing process. Far too often, eating disorders become minimized in our society as a passing psychological problem that can just be thought away with inspirational self-help books or a hearty lack of nerve. Society unfortunately overlooks the very real reasons these individuals are hurting.
Those who suffer from serious eating disorders suffer in very real ways. Anorexia, a dangerous and psychological disorder whose victims relentlessly pursue thinness, all too often to the point of death. Typically, those below 15% their normal body weight for their height have anorexia, but the illness can be so hard that it leads to death. 10% of those afflicted with anorexia die of the disorder, the highest mortality rate of any psychological disease. With theses serious issues in mind, it is imperative that anorexia be immediately dealt with for the sake of the health of the individual. This includes a holistic recovery program at an anorexia treatment center that completely incorporates languages of recovery, philosophy and psychology. A holistic treatment program encompasses a nurturing program that is backed by a healthy diet and exercise, as well as spiritual discovery and meditation.
While anorexia may be easier to spot to alert loved ones to seek treatment, bulimia is more difficult because the disease has no set weight pattern for the individuals afflicted with it. Someone suffering form it may be normal weight, underweight and even overweight. It is, however, a serious affliction where the individual can suffer serious health affects, including a rupturing of the esophagus and intestinal complications. An effective bulimia treatment plan should not only be medical, but also environmentally nurturing through encouraging a healthy lifestyle while addressing the psychological roots at the core. Therapies summon nature and use art as a creative healer. Key self-esteem areas are addressed, as are traumatic experiences and seriously rooted psychological issues.
