Breaking free from an addiction to drugs or alcohol is not something that you have to do on your own. Getting help from an alcohol rehab center means that you are surrounded by people who truly understand what you are going through. Clients can step out of the shadows of addiction and get the help they need to lead sober lives. When you are considering a California drug rehab or an alcohol treatment center, you want to find a place where you will feel comfortable. Each center has its own way of approaching treatment for its clients, and you will want to be sure that the one you are considering has a philosophy that makes sense to you. Having the support of family members is an important part of a client's recovery and some centers offer programs for them as well. Some of the approaches that may be used by a California drug rehab are cognitive-behavior therapy, as well as individual and group therapy sessions. Eating a well-balanced diet and exercising regularly can help the healing process, since a person dealing with addiction issues may neglect them as their disease progresses. Meditation may be part of the treatment as well, since clients need to slow down and get in touch with their feelings and the issues that drove them into addiction in the first place. Some people who are getting treatment at an alcohol rehab center work a 12-step program to get (and stay sober). These principles can be adapted for use by clients who are looking to a California drug rehab center for help as well. The first stage in dealing with an addiction to drugs or alcohol is for the client to go through a detoxification process. Depending on the substance involved, this may need to be medically supervised by staff at the treatment center. Detox is not the same thing as getting treatment for an addiction, but treatment will not be effective as long as the client is still using the substance. Once the person has broken the physical dependence on drugs or alcohol, the work of rehabilitation can begin. If the client is being treated using the 12-step approach, the principles can be followed during the aftercare stage as well. Recovery from an addiction to drugs and/or alcohol is not something that someone reaches once and then they can say that they are cured. It is an ongoing process that needs to be supported, and follow-up treatment is essential to keep someone from falling back into their previous behavior after they have left the alcohol treatment center.
