Love poems are a fun way to show someone how you feel about them. Lovers have been writing love poems for centuries. In these hectic modern times, too often we don't slow down enough to write poetry or even to read poetry. Certainly the schools don't spend much time teaching the fine art of love poem writing. I think it is high time we did slow down and enjoy the pleasures of old fashioned romance, and that can start with sending a love poem to the one you love. You don't have to start from scratch at first - or ever if you don't feel up to it. You can always borrow from the great love poems that already exist. Valentine's Day is an especially appropriate time to send a love poem to your true love. So, where to start? Following are 3 tips for finding or writing great love poems: 1. Give it a try yourself, even if you 'know' you are not a good writer. Have fun with it. Gain inspiration from the poems you remember from childhood, like 'roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you!'. Sometimes a simple rhyme you created yourself makes such an impression. You'll knock your lover off their feet! 2. Start with longer prose that you can find in a poetry book at your local library. You could even leave the love poem just as it is, credit the author, and write it on pretty paper with your favorite pen. You might even try your hand at calligraphy or use scented ink. 3. Take the lead from an old love song. Love songs are so often just a form of poetry put to music. You could even make a recording of yourself saying or singing it.
