If you are someone who is endeavoring to enhance your grades, there are a number of shortcuts that will help you to heighten your capacity to sharpen your concentration, absorb the information that you study, and recollect it during an examination without being subjected to mental blocks or test anxiety. This is a list of how to go about establishing good learning habits: (1) Set aside a place for learning and only study in that place! Find a peaceful location that will facilitate concentration without any distractions. Some potential examples would be a library, a vacant classroom, or your office. You want to establish the custom of studying when you are in this special place. So it's best to not use this place for other activities like daydreaming, conversations, or eating, etc. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR STUDY PLACE HAS: (a) A comfortable chair, but not excessively comfortable (b) Your desk (c) Excellent lighting (d) Good ventilation MAKE SURE THAT YOUR STUDY PLACE DOESN'T HAVE: (a) Distractions (b) A telephone (c) Music that will distract you (d) A large screen television set (e) Another person who talks too much (f) A refrigerator filled with distractions (2) Break up your homework into tiny, short-range projects. (a) Set up small highly specific goals like, "I am going to study my Algebra from 3 PM to 4 PM. Or else you will only set yourself up to fail. (b) Set a doable study goal for the amount of time you are able to allocate. For example: finish reading chapter six in my Algebra text, or complete a final version of my history paper, etc. Set your goal at the specific time that you are ready to sit down and study, just before you begin. Set doable goals. You might possibly do more than reach your goal, but set a reasonable goal even if it seems too easy. (3) Test Anxiety & Phobias (a) Some students mostly experience physical symptoms, like feeling hot or cold, nausea, or faintness, etc. (b) Other students experience emotional symptoms for the most part, like feeling frustrated, irritable, or crying easily. (c) The main trouble with anxiety is that it can make one have a memory block. Or it could make one have thoughts that are racing out of control. (d) Although you may currently experience some level of anxiety while taking an examination, you can learn to diminish that anxiety, or even completely eliminate it! (e) Anxiousness and the resultant stress are more often than not the main causes of a lack of the ability to focus your attention. Stress can also trigger a mental block when one tries to recollect information. (f) Hypnosis CD's can be utilized to relax your mind and focus your concentration. As your mind calms down, your ability to stay focused will increase. Similarly, a calm mind enhances your ability to retain information, and recall it when it is needed. (g) Hypnosis and NLP CD's can also be utilized to program your mind for the positive expectation of tranquility and the ability to recall information during an examination.
