Because college can be such a new experience, many students forget the most important things for college. Sure, they go out and buy new bedding, towels, and books. But there is more to the necessities than toiletries. Here are the top five essentials that most college kids forget about or don't even realize that they may need: 1. A quality computer. And not just one that looks good; if you can find one with both—pure gold. Which type of computer to get is dependent on your major. Think of your future assignments. Which programs are you going to need and which ones are you going to use constantly. Make sure your computer will support every program that you need and even a few you don't need—everyone needs a break once in a while, right? 2. Internet backup. This may seem trivial, but it is pretty common for computers to crash and their users to lose everything. You want to be prepared. We all know that if something bad is going to happen, it will happen at the worst possible moment. That is just the way that life seems to work sometimes. By having internet backup, you won't have to stress or worry about all your hard work throughout your college years just evaporating one day. 3. An internship. This may seem obvious, but some majors don't require an internship before graduation. Even it isn't required, it is still a good idea in order to get some experience on your fast food resume. You need something to boost your resume appeal. 4. Some form of transportation. Ok. Not every college kid can afford a car. If not, how about a bike, skateboard, scooter, moped, skates. If none of these are in your budget, just get some great walking shoes. Whatever you can afford, right? And there is absolutely nothing wrong with using the legs God gave you. Just make sure you are prepared for whatever form of transportation you choose. 5. A quality book bag or backpack. Get one that is practical for comfort—and of course, one that looks great too. You don't want to develop back or shoulder problems because you have the wrong kind of backpack. Make sure that it is large enough to hold all of the things you will need to take with you everyday.
