For the past several decades, the American real estate market has had its share of ups and downs: there have been periods of intense growth and periods of disappointing losses. In the American Northwest, however, things have remained fairly stable: this area has held steady as other areas have suffered, and families continue to relocate to the area for great jobs, schools, and opportunities for a wonderful life.

Perhaps the center of the Northwest's housing market is Seattle Washington real estate. Seattle is one of the region's primary cities - and the community's unique charms have made it a favorite spot for many individuals and families to settle. Seattle WA real estate offers buyers the opportunity to live in a bustling city center or a quiet, leafy suburb - as well as access to the beauty of the great outdoors combined with the entertainment options of an urban jungle.

The Seattle Washington real estate area has been inhabited for thousands of years, with European settlements arriving in the past 200. Early settlements were scattered across the area and went by a variety of names - but the primary town gained the name "Seattle" in 1853 to honor Chief Sealth of the nearby Duwamish and Suquamish tribes. 1853, the year of the city's official naming, was also when the first official plats for the village were filed. Legal land settlement rules were set forth in 1855, and the city was first incorporated in 1865.

The Seattle WA real estate area has seen a number of significant events over the course of its history. A massive fire destroyed the central business district in 1889, and the Klondike gold rush of that same era made Seattle a massive transportation and refueling hub for those headed north in search of their fortunes. In 1909, the city played host to the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition. The event played a large role in laying out the campus of the future University of Washington.

Today, Seattle Washington real estate represents a broad cross-section of the United States real estate market. Home seekers can find historic single-family homes, urban loft-like condos, and sprawling ranch houses. Everywhere you turn, Seattle WA real estate is marked by welcoming neighborhoods, quality infrastructure, and a wonderfully strong community. No matter what you needs and priorities, real estate in Seattle is sure to suit your family through and through. Visit Seattle today: you're sure to find something that piques your interest.
