There are so many home loan products in the marketplace that the ordinary man or woman in the street can be excused for being confused. If you are in the market for a home loan, never accept the first one that comes along. It may be just the one for you, but chances are there will be many others available that suit you even better. It's a good idea to get the services of a broker because they are trained in home loans and will be able to guide you towards something to suit your specific situation. Brokers are mostly not qualified to give legal, financial or tax advice, though. The lending institution you settle for pays the broker, so his services are free to you. If you do decide to go it alone, never accept telephone or door-to-door solicitations. These are mostly shady deals. It is important to take the time to become acquainted with the various types of home loans available and the jargon used, so you can understand what's going on. Never sign up for something you don't fully understand and always make sure you can actually afford the repayments. And don't forget that you should receive a copy of any mortgage documents.
