Huntsville is the largest city in northern Alabama, boasting a population of over 160,000 individuals. The region as a whole is home to approximately half a million people - meaning that the greater Huntsville area offers a wide range of cultural and economic opportunities that extend far beyond the city's formal limits. From national defense to scientific research and from the Army to NASA, Huntsville AL real estate is home to a wide range of people and industries.

Huntsville began as a single cabin in the early part of the 19th century owned by a settler named John Hunt. The town that grew around this original settlement was called Twickenham, and the area was carefully planned to include a neat grid of streets laid out northeast to southwest in order to align to the local Big Spring. The name Twickenham anchored the community until the time of the War of 1912, when anti-British sentiment abounded and the residents chose to honor their first resident (despite the fact that he no longer lived within the town limits proper), who was a Revolutionary War hero, rather than anything that felt or sounded remotely British.

As time passed, early Huntsville AL real estate bled into the nearby hills and extended along the Tennessee River. Some of the first successful industries were textile mills, with munitions factories following closely thereafter. In the years that followed, residents of Huntsville homes saw their communal wealth grow as the cotton and railroad industries gained steam. Wealthy planters from Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia relocated to Huntsville homes to take advantage of the growing area, and 1819 saw the city host a constitutional convention in a cabinetmaker's shop.

Today, Huntsville AL real estate is home to a thriving population of individuals and families who value everything gained by living in the Huntsville area. Huntsville is famously home to the U.S. Army's Redstone Arsenal and NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center - both of which bring jobs, education, and cultural well being to the area. Residents of the Huntsville AL real estate market, then, are well rounded, well educated families and individuals who enjoy everything the Huntsville, Alabama area has to offer.
