When you go to buy a house it can be easy to simply take stock of surface value, especially if you see several each day. Instead, take a notebook and pen with you and even a digital camera to remind you just what it was you liked about each house. Measure your own furniture before you go to be sure it will fit in the houses you like best. Check out the taps for water pressure and taste the water too. Dirty water could indicate costly plumbing repairs. Check for peeling or bubbling paint that will indicate a damp problem. If timber feels soft to the touch it is rotten. If doors stick or walls are cracked it could be a sign that the foundations of the house have subsided. This is an expensive problem to fix. Look in the manhole to see if there is insulation in the ceiling. Lack of this will add to your heating and cooling bills. Check the hot-water system to see if it's big enough and not too old. If you plan of renovating, check out the kitchen and bathroom carefully as these are the most expensive rooms to renovate. Look for old cupboards, tiles that are cracked or chipped and plumbing. Find out about the age of air-conditioning and heating. Check the carpets and the floorboards under them. Article Source: http://www.ArticleBlast.com |
