There was a time when joining an on-line dating site used to evoke shock among people. If you were telling anyone that you had recently met someone online, it was considered less than normal. Now, times have changed and on-line dating has become a part of our life. In fact, if you are a single and not a member of any on-line dating site, you are considered by some to be a social dinosaur.

The changes in the popular perception towards the concept of on-line dating can be attributed to the changing priorities of many people. Prior to on-line dating, singles used to meet up at a bar or club. However, it was not very successful because clubs are loud, and it's hard to get to know each other in that sort of setting. A bar or a club scene is not a very good place to find potential dates.

The growing frustration against the bars and clubs was the main reason that gave rise to the popularity of on-line dating. The initial hitch with having to meet someone online was the lack of trust. Nobody would believe the other people simply by chatting with them online. Again, the rise of some unscrupulous activities in some on-line dating sites added to the panic among singles.

It took a few years before the inhibitions about meeting people online gave way to acceptance of on-line dating as a potential platform of finding prospective dates. The convenience of dating from the comfort of home without risking privacy gave on-line dating wide acceptance among a lot of singles. Today, we have many on-line dating sites that have made on-line dating even more interactive and fun by incorporating new tools. It looks like on-line dating is here to stay for a long time.
