Many style statements and new fashions came up in the decades of 70's and 80's. These innovative designs caught the eye of millions and ruled over their hearts. The fashion had changed very rapidly during those years. It was because of the launch of MTV which brought a huge revolution in the field of fashion, music industry and whatever it relates to. People attempted to express themselves often. The era saw abrupt changes in the styles of men and women. People seemed to sport tight clothes on the upper half and loosely fitting fabric on the lower half in the 70s. In 80's the trend almost inverted itself. Women were seen in bold designs with pads on shoulders. Men wore loose trousers tapering at the ankles and tight shirts made of expensive fabrics.. Former punks introduced the Romantic Movement with designer clothes. Designer jeans and "leather in clothing" also began to emerge as hot styles which soon caught up. Women had adapted wearing high heel pointed shoes as business wear & jelly shoes which were transparent and came in glossy colours as party wear. Jogging pants and tracksuits turned common leisure wear. The music bands of this era also came up with their particular style statement of faded jeans which were acid washed and denim jackets and also tattoos & piercings were new highlights of their fashion trend. Men begun to wear flashy earrings. Hairstyles also took quick strides and included a lot of mousse that gave the impact of a shiny convoluted look. Crimped hair with contrasting streaks of colour was popular among teenagers. Men began to keep longer hair and some women kept shorter hair. Jewellery encrusted with precious stones became a display of success and power. Women used odd long earrings which often were not matching and sometimes they would wear just one earring. Fashion jewellery saw some new highs in the form of Fine gold and silver chains, punk style, and neon colours. Enamel and modern shapes also gave some edge over the old jewellery. Digital watches with metal wristbands started popularising the beginning of ‘80s but afterwards adults returned to dial watches. Teens still preferred the vibrant colours of plastic watches. Watch faces had roman numerals. The Movado design was a status symbol featuring a sleek design plus a dot at 12. Sometimes people also used several wrist watches on one wrist along with hoop earrings and gold bracelets. Designer bags manufactured from leather were also one of the trend setters. Clutch bags captivated interest amongst people for being so firm and appressed. Stylish briefcases also sold very well. Women were accustomed to match their shoe colour with that of their bags. Shawls in various designs and colors became a favorite of the women. These shawls could be put on with tops in the day and gowns in the evenings. Designer underwear for women also formed a part of the trend especially the ones with laces and coloured boxer shorts for men. Small metal framed glasses became common towards 1984-85. A smaller rounder type remained popular throughout the decade. Fashion had a massive repercussion and bearing on the lives of people during those decades.
